Pre-Weld Surface Preparation: Before striking an arc, base metals must be free of rust, oil, paint, and mill scale to prevent porosity and ensure deep penetration. JKings knotted wire brushes aggressively remove mill scale from hot-rolled steel, exposing clean, bright metal for welding. The twisted knot configuration fractures and removes the hard oxide layer while creating a slight surface texture (anchor pattern) that improves weld adhesion.

For thin-wall tubing and sheet metal where aggressive brushing might distort the workpiece, our crimped wire brushes provide gentler cleaning action. The flexible wires remove surface contaminants without thinning the base metal or creating stress risers.

Post-Weld Spatter Removal: Weld spatter—those annoying blobs of molten metal that adhere to surfaces adjacent to welds—must be removed for aesthetic and functional reasons. JKings wire brushes effectively chip away hardened spatter without damaging the underlying metal surface. The impact action of the rotating wires fractures the brittle spatter while the brush face cleans the surrounding heat-affected zone.

Heat Tint Removal: Stainless steel welding creates heat tint (oxidation colors) that must be removed to restore corrosion resistance.
